Spring in Salzburg

One week after going to the Netherlands, my friend Hilmi invited me to accompany Vivi, his friend during college at ITB, who was an exchange student in Groningen, the Netherlands. With my friend Nurul, four of us decided to go to Salzburg, a city in Austria which is only about 2 hours from Munich. Going to Salzburg, we can still use Bayern ticket. FYI, the price of Bayern ticket is 25 €, and for the second, third, until the fifth person. The six and the rest only need to pay 6 € /person. So going with a group of four will be very cheap using Bayern ticket. Bayern ticket for Monday-Friday is valid from 9 a.m – 3 a.m (following morning), while for Saturday to Sunday, it is valid from 12 a.m – 3 a.m (following morning). Bayern ticket can be used to all destination in Bayern region, including trips to the city of Salzburg in Austria (but not valid for local transport in Salzburg), valid for regional trains (RE, RB), S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Trams, and most buses in Bayern. Bayern tickets can be purchased at the Hauptbahnhof station. Don’t forget to write the names of all passengers on the tickets that you obtain.

Salzburg, a city known as a city of music, is where composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. Besides, the city is also famous as the place of popular Sound of Music movie. At first, I knew the city after watching the old Korean drama, Spring Waltz, starring Han Hyo Joo.

Together with autumn, for me spring is the best season for sightseeing, where the weather isn’t too cold or hot.

After arrived at the station, we walked to one of the most popular places in Salzburg, the Schloss Mirabell. When we entered, we were welcomed by very beautiful gardens and flowers.

After sat down and enjoyed the Schloss Mirabell, we decided to take a walk to Hohensalzburg Castle. In order to get there, we had to pass Lock Bridge, then to Neustadt (new town) and Altstadt (old town) of Salzburg.

When walking towards Neustadt, we finally saw one of the most popular places in Salzburg, namely Mozart Geburthaus a.k.a home of Mozart.

After walking for some time, finally we arrived at Altstadt Salzburg. We saw there was a cable car to go to Hohensalzburg Castle. Even though there was a cable car available, we decided to walk, because the weather was so good and we wanted to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Salzburg city (well, actually it was to save money, haha). Eventhough the journey from Salzburg Station to the castle was actually quite far and uphill, we really enjoyed it as the scenery was really beautiful.

Thanks God, after struggling to walk in steeply hill, finally we arrived at Hohensalzburg Castle. Out of curiosity, we decided to go to the other side, and oh my God, we found a fort with very beautiful surroundings. Even from here, we could see the Alps covered with eternal snow.

At first, we wanted to sit in the cracks of the defense wall, but it didn’t work because the walls were steep down, not upwards, as a result, if we were not careful, we could fall down. When I thought about it, I understood why the steep wall is down, this is a fortress, from behind the wall, the soldier could release the arrow to the enemy below easily and will make it difficult for the enemy below to shoot up the fortress. Hoho, it turned out it was not useless to read Detective Conan ~

It turned out that it wasn’t in vain we walked far to the other side of Hohensalzburg Castle. There were not many people here. We also decided to relax and enjoy the amazingly beautiful scenery. From here, we could even see the Alps which were covered with eternal snow. Breathe fresh air, enjoy the wind, and smell the grass. Then which of your Lord’s favors would you deny?
